Neck Pain FAQs

Neck Pain Treatment FAQ

Nearly everyone suffers neck pain sometime. Some people suffer neck pain that just won't go away on its own. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about neck pain from our chiropractors at Grice Chiropractic in Pittsburgh, PA and Mars, PA.

.

What causes chronic neck pain?

Neck pain that just won't go away usually results from accidents, bad posture, computer-tablet-and smart phone usage, video gaming,  or age-related wear and tear. It can also be a complication of whiplash that occurs in auto crashes, sports injuries, work injuries, personal injuries, spills, falls, and other accidents.

Are there any symptoms of these injuries besides neck pain?

The injuries that bring you into your chiropractor's office for neck pain relief may also be causing problems in the arms and shoulders. There can be tingling and burning sensations, or numbness all the way down to the fingers. Pain that interferes with sleep can result in symptoms like PTSD, such as anxiety, irritability, and depression. All of these symptoms are relieved or go away in the course of successful neck pain relief.

But can't I take care of neck pain on my own?

The problem with over the counter pain relievers is that they are dangerous with prolonged use. Most often just aren't enough. Even worse, they can cause stomach problems and interfere with the formation of connective tissue that is important for recovering from neck injuries.

Healthy self-care like stretching, hydration, and good diet help the body recover from neck injuries. They just aren't enough to take of your spine when an injury has caused a spinal misalignment. When that happens, you need a chiropractor to correct the issue.

When do I need to see a chiropractor?

Neck pain problems are cumulative. When neck pain relief is put off for weeks, or months, or years, you can accelerate aging of the vertebrae, develop poor posture or bad lifting habits that relieve pain temporarily, but make the underlying problem worse. This can cause you to suffer tremendous loss of productivity at work and opportunities to enjoy your life. It's always best to stop the cycle that keeps making neck pain worse with drug-free, surgery-free, chiropractic intervention.

Does chiropractic neck pain treatment hurt?

Gentle chiropractic treatment for neck pain is pain-free. You should feel a little better after every treatment.
